Lisa Read

I grew up in the Cowichan Valley, where I still make my home. After receiving a BEd from the University of Victoria ('92), I worked for a number of years as an elementary school teacher. Completing a post-graduate degree at Royal Roads (MADL '05) inspired new directions and challenges, and I worked with some of the leading developers of online learning in BC, including BCEd Online/ Virtual School Society, Open School, KnowSchools, eTraffic and Royal Roads. My most recent challenge has been the Information Technology Department at Mount Prevost Middle School in Duncan, where even after five years I still enjoy the challenge of teaching teenagers—and other teachers—how to interact happily with their computers, and to appreciate world history, in the form of grade 8 social studies.

In my spare time, besides the care and feeding of a husband and our own two teenagers, I tweet and blog and constantly marvel at how electronic communication continues to evolve. I am fascinated by everything from Flash mobs and memes to the rise of citizen journalism, and look forward to the next Big Idea.
